Muta Eastbourne 1975

Created by Martin 6 years ago

I was asked to give a presentation to Muta at Eastbourne in 1975,regarding coated fabrics as manufactured and supplied by Verseidag Indutex ,typically pvc and ptfe coatings for Architectural applications. After the presentation John Carter introduced himself to me, gave me his business card(which I still have),and asked me to get in touch.I did that exactly and we remained in touch until John sadly passed away at the end of March. Our last telephone conversation was just a few weeks ago, and John asked me to call in next time I was down .We did some excellent mutual business over the years and often as we met at JJ Carter Ltd,John would have a cheque in an envelope waiting, even if that payment was not due, a man of enormous integrity, well respected by all who knew him.I am pleased to have supplied fabrics for many projects over the years, the ptfe glass mesh fabric for "The Gateway to Portsmouth",the 20,000/m2 of Type 11 for the Howdon project, and the Type 111 pvc/pes supplied for the Sandown Racecourse Canopies, and the Container loads of Keder, come immediately to mind, however there were many other projects, too numerous to mention.John was not just interested in business, but on a personal basis would be keen to send messages of support after Hospital treatment, and in particular he sent me a very nice illustrated special edition of Shooting Cartoons,as I have been a sporting shot for many years. In 1987 John and Charlie came to the 75th Anniversary of Verseidag in the UK,which was a Corporate Clay Pigeon Shoot,John illustrating his prowess with a 12 bore Shot Gun,and Charlie was presented with a Trophy, being one of the best young Shots in attendance. We had many enjoyable meals together and Jill introduced me to Lamb Henry's and her Hot Pots were very much appreciated on one of the Open Days for JJ Carter Ltd.John made sure that business was more on a friendly basis, he will be sadly missed!Sorry John that we didn't have the opportunity for me to call in.RIP Martin Ratcliffe Verseidag 1973-2003
